VisionCite Subscription: Supplement your PubMed Search

Date: 17/03/08

Following a successful trial, the College Library now subscribes to VisionCite. As mentioned before, VisionCite is a citation index to optometric journal articles. The database contains bibliographical citations for over 200,000 journal articles indexed from 1984 to present. More than 110 periodicals are regularly indexed. Subject areas covered include optometry, ophthalmology, contact lenses, reading, perception, and other vision-related subjects.

VisionCite is a useful supplement to PubMed, bridging the gaps in PubMed's coverage of optometric literature. Some examples of titles not indexed in PubMed, but included in VisionCite are Contact Lens Spectrum, British Journal of Visual Impairment, Review of Optometry, Optometry Today, and Optician.

If you would like to use VisionCite, contact Carrie Sherlock for access details.

VisionCite Index Trial

Date: 26/11/07

The College Library has a one month trial subscription to VisionCite. Visioncite is a citation index to optometric journal articles. The database contains bibliographical citations for over 200,000 journal articles indexed from 1984 to present. More than 110 periodicals are regularly indexed. Subject areas covered include optometry, ophthalmology, contact lenses, reading, perception, and other vision-related subjects.

Compiled by the Illinois College of Optometry Library, VisionCite is a useful supplement to PubMed, bridging the gaps in PubMed's coverage of optometric literature. Some examples of titles not indexed in PubMed, but included in VisionCite are Contact Lens Spectrum, British Journal of Visual Impairment, Review of Optometry, Optometry Today, and Optician.

While there are no abstracts, there are many useful features such as an advanced search, boolean search operators, the ability to mark and email citations, and direct links to articles when possible.

After the trial period is complete, the College Library will evaluate whether or not to subscribe to VisionCite for 2008. Your input is welcomed and encouraged. If you would like to try VisionCite, contact the Librarian, Carrie Sherlock for access details.
